This is coming to HBO this month. The trailer alone might make you tear up. It's also apolitical.

Taking Chance http://www.traileraddict.com/trailer...chance/trailer

The trailer for HBO's Taking Chance which is based on real-life events, Lt. Col. Michael Strobl (Kevin Bacon), a volunteer military escort officer, accompanies the body of 19-year-old Marine Chance Phelps back to his hometown of Dubois, Wyoming.

True story of Chance Phelps

The wife and I saw this on HBO tonight. Very touching story. It's great to see the fallen treated with respect and honor during their journey home. :-)

My wife and I also watched this tonight. Question on protocol though. I was Army and have been to numerous Army funerals to include several at Arlington cemetery for friends and family.

At the end of the movie at the grave site - I noticed that there was not an honor guard standing watch until he was lowered. My wife thought maybe since it was not at Arlington Cemetery that they didn't do that. But I reminded her that when our friend Raymond was buried this past year in a private cemetery in the middle of nowhere - a lone honor guard remained there as we all left. I have only been to one Marine funeral - for my uncle - and he was interned in a mausoleum and the honor guard left after the flag was removed - but this could have been due to lack of space - crowded area with a ton of family and friends.

I have never been to a Navy or Air Force funeral.

Is the lone honor guard an Army procedure - or just an omission in the movie.

I wondered about the same thing. I'm interested to hear what others have to say.

watched it last night. wife and i were both struggling to stay dry-eyed.

say what you want, but kevin bacon's always been a rather good actor to watch. and footloose is totally under-rated... :-)

If you folks without HBO have friends with HBO, I was able to verify today that it can be recorded to DVD from the cable box dvr and it can be duplicated. For some reason HBO (or Comcast) decided not to put a DRM block on recording and duplication. Good for them since this needs to be seen since it helps people understand the bond between individuals in the military.
