Discussion>Do you rub all at once or a little at a time?
WhiteMamba 09:56 AM 03-31-2015
Just as the title implies. Do you rub all of your tobacco out as soon as you open it or do you only rub out what you intend to smoke at the time?

I have been rubbing out a bowl or two at a time. I have been curious if there are any negatives to rubbing it out all at once.

I rub it out all at once bro!…not sure about pipe tobacco though :-)

Sorry Michael, but that title could not go without being addressed in a childish manner :-)

I rub it 'till it stops feeling good. :-)

I used to rub it all at once, but as I've aged I've perforce slowed my strokes.

Though, to be fair, some would argue that I have never had an option, and could only rub a little at a time.

I should have known that you guys would take this in a terrible direction. :-)

I saw this thread first and passed.
I was just gonna say "I'm not gonna touch this with a 10 foot pole", but I thought that might be leading.

What about a 10cm pole, Scott?

OK -to the poor pastors question - I tend to do a little at a time - that way you keep your options open if you want to fold a flake or coin down the road. It you rub it all out you are committed. There is a whole ritual in planning your next bowl that is all part of the fun.

Thank you Neil for the appropriate answer.

You're welcome brother, I'm always appropriate ( other than the 6 sexual harrasment lawsuits pending....)

And Scott knows his sheep, regardless of the pole's dimensions.

Innocent until proven guilty.

Neil may not be guilty, but he certainly is not innocent.

Are you speaking from experience? :-) :-)

To actually answer the question, I'm one of the oddballs, if I have opened the tin its for smoking and I'll go ahead and fully rub things out, makes packing a bowl much quicker and less messy. I've never been a fan of folding flakes.

Regarding the title, I can't believe I'm going to be the first one to say it, but:

it depends on the tobacco for me.

nutcracker had a great reply as well.

if it's a McClellands flake, you HAVE TO rub it all out at once, otherwise that crap will turn into hardened shards that splinter into your skin and won't ever rub if they come close to drying out a bit.

if it's a standard flake cut, one that i will never "fold n stuff" and isn't a curly cut/coin, i'll just rub the entirety out and put it in a mason jar. i know nutcracker mentioned the ritual aspect of planning your next bowl, but what if you don't plan that far ahead and blam, a bowl of FVF strikes you? then you have to rub it out, etc, etc, and it may be too dry at that time.

anyway, it's all preference, no right or wrong.
