All Cigar Discussion>Trying to determine certain types of Cigars

So I recently got a variety of cigars given to me by my wife's, cousins new husband (i know that sounded akward) on a recent visit.

He gave me a mix of Cohiba, Monte Cristo, and Kristoff.

He can't tell me what kind each are. I have tried the Cohiba, and Kristoff so far, and like both. Is there any easy way for me to determine what kind each are, in case I want to order so more of each?

Thanks

Mike

Usually just a little research using the length, ring gauge, and design of the band.

Thanks bonjing. So to determine ring gauge, I was reading somewhere, that you measure the clean cut diameter and multiply by 64. Is this correct?

Google "Cigar Ring Gauge Chart" and you'll get dozens of them in the image results. It'll save you some time measuring and doing math. :-)

There is also an iPhone app that will let you select a RG or free hand it, it shows up as a circle on your phone you then just set the cigar on that and get it "close", I say close because it's kind of hard to get it exact.

Again if the Monte was a Piramide then you know it was pretty much a #2, unless it was a petite, etc,

Also helps to know if they were a mix of CC and NC or all NC etc.,

Thanks, but I am a blackberry guy. Had an Iphone when I started me new job, but asked them to switch me back to BB. I like BB for business, but the Apple apps kicked butt!

I'm guessing that he probably gave you the non-Cuban Cohiba and Montecristo, and Kristoff only exists as an NC brand. If he did in fact give you all NC cigars, it should be pretty easy, just match the band up on what you have to what is shown on the following sites and then check the lengths - you might not even have to worry about measuring the RG unless you have two vitolas that are very close in length.

Kristoff:

Montecristo:

Cohiba:

(choose Cohiba from the menu)

Thanks. I will check these out. According to him the Cohiba and Monte cristo (Open Eagle on the band) are Cuban. The Kristoff says Dominican on the band. Will definitely check the sites you listed though. Thanks

Don't bother with the Montecristo and Cohiba links then, those are for the non Cuban versions.

You can find the Cuban cigar ID guide here:

Thanks so much guys. here are my findings:

Kristoff - Kristoff Original - Robusto

Monte Cristo - Eagle - Robusto Extra

Plus I have a box and a half left of Monte Cristo #4's that I bought in Cuba this spring.

Cohiba - Esplendisos - Churchhill

Mystery solved.

Thanks again guys.
