Actor James Avery, who played the beloved Uncle Phil on the hit 1990s sitcom "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," died Tuesday, his publicist confirmed. He was 65.

He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and first appeared onscreen as a dancer in an uncredited role in the 1980 film "The Blues Brothers."

He was also the voice of shredder from the 80's/90's teenage mutant ninja turtles cartoon for those of you younger lads like me. Loved him in fresh prince as well. RIP.

Sad. The show wouldn't have been the same without him. Rest in peace!

R.I.P Mr. Avery. I loved Fresh Prince and the original TMNT cartoon growing up. He will be missed.
