Are there any sickos out there in Asylum-land that prank kids on Halloween?
I just asked the people in my office if they want to guess the over-under on
how many bags of candy I will end up with this year from the kids I scare.
Here is my 12 year old scam.
I have two ENORMOUS speakers as tall as a man, some old Peaveys, and I cue up the scene in Jurassic Park
where the T-Rex bashes in the sunroof on the jeep with his nose and ROARS at the kids. There is a long, silent
pause before he crashes through it and then all hell breaks loose. I cue it up on the DVD player at the start of
the silence, and turn it up to 11. When they knock, I un-pause the disc, open the door with a smile and say:
"HEY, Kids, Happy Halloween....." I look above their heads past them and finish, "Oh My God....It's BACK.....
RUUUUUUUUuuuuunn!!"
Right about then the TRex ROARS SO LOUD and there is a loud crash and screaming. Some kids drop their
candy and haul a55 and are never seen again. At least in my neighborhood which is weighted heavily towards
African Americans. For some reason they really get scared and almost always tend to run like hell. I think they
forget its Halloween and the chances that there is ACTUALLY a monster around are close to zero.

I wish there was a way to see it, too.....for the first year in many in a row, I can't find my Jurassic Park DVD...
I was crushed. I think it might have been taken to the Smokies and either left, or went home with a relative.
I sat catatonic in my chair at home utterly depressed and deflated. I had been asked by some of the girls at
work to record it, so we could have all seen it. I even tried downloading it off the web, but all of the avis that
I found listed out there had long been deleted from servers.

I've seen the old bit where a guy dresses up like a scarecrow and sits on a porch chair. He then puts all the candy in a giant bowl in his lap with a sign that says please take only one. Then he waits and tries to stay still. If the kids take more than one piece he comes to life, yelling, etc. and scares the crap out of them.

I have done this. But, I don't come to life yelling and screaming, I just quietly grab their arm/hand with one hand and point to the sign with the other. Often don't get to point to the sign before the screaming, peeing in the pants, and trying to run away starts.
Although my sign usually said, "Take only one - I am watching!"

The downside of the scarecrow prank.
I've done it too. Had a fake scarecrow on my porch for a couple weeks in advance so all the kids got used to it when they would come over to the house. Then on Halloween, I pulled it, dressed in the same clothes with hay sticking out and everything. I did the screaming bit. Scared a LOT of kids and all of their parents. I like Rev's idea though. Sometimes less is more.
