Higher than average for pipes in general, but for handmade artisan pipes those are pretty normal.

Yeah from what I've seen he is not charging outrageous prices or anything. One thing I noticed and I may be wrong but I don't know if all his pipes are briar. Looking at his description/name of each pipe it seems like some are not briar, I could be wrong and he might just be using descriptive terms for the finishes or something. Thats the only concern I might have about these beautiful specimens.

You're right he does use some alternative woods other than briar in some of the pipes, Boxwood Sapwood and Cocobolo seam to be the others. Some of the other terms are either the type of finish or the shape of the pipe.
I'm not sure what the properties of these exact woods are but most hardwoods with a tight grain are suitable for making a pipe. Cherry, pare are two other alternatives to briar that are more common.
