General Discussion>Almost a million homes without power tonight.

That's according to the news channel. Hellish storm came through and our area has been without power for over an hour and a half now. Over 500,000 in Northern Virginia. They are saying it could be days before it gets restored.

That sucks for most people and this 100+ degree heat wave which is expected to stay with us for the next several days.

Fortunately I'm not one of them. My 17K whole house generator is humming away out there. :-)

People in VA should be glad they aren't in CO.

That sucks. Its harsh if you are not used to that kind of heat.

There are people in my area (Dayton Ohio) who have been told not to expect power back on before Sunday.

Had 4 deaths so far, two local to me within a few miles. The storm they say has cooled things a tad - only going to be 101 instead of more.

Trees down, house parts and trash everywhere. I only suffered a torn up tent that I had setup for the 4th party celebration and couldn't secure before it hit.

Generator still humming away - neighbors dropping by to cool off for a bit. No idea when power will get restored.

I know Dave's (trishield) area was getting pounded pretty good also last night.

It's all relative. We can pray for both areas and fortunately, it's not a competition to see who has it worse right now.

Still is.

I'm still without - just past 72 hours now. Good thing the generator is holding it's own.

Was just over at my neighbors house - they left for Michigan last Thursday. I must have tossed out over $1000 in food from their two freezers. :-)

On a good note for them - one of their huge tall oak trees got destroyed but just missed the house, shed and deck.

I always wonder how they held out in hot weather back in the days before air conditioners, like during the Dust Bowl of the Great Depression years. Here's a little perspective:

Looked like 1934 to 1936 were hell....

Well we went 94 hours without the power - just came back on tonight.

You know when I installed the generator my wife *****ed and moaned over the cost and "did we really need one." After this I have been elevated to god like status for installing it. :-)

Hopefully the remaining 500,000 or so get their power back soon. Big thanks to all the crews from the Carolina's, Canada and other 16 states that have been working round the clock to help out!

The black out did help Ron's fireworks display.
No nasty street lamps to deal with :-)
