"LOS ANGELES (AP) - Ray Bradbury, the science fiction-fantasy master who transformed his childhood dreams and Cold War fears into telepathic Martians, lovesick sea monsters, and, in uncanny detail, the high-tech, book-burning future of "Fahrenheit 451," has died. He was 91."

He will be missed. I've taken in recent years to quoting and/or summarizing ideas from Fahrenheit 451 to explain so much of what goes on today in the world.

Bradbury gave me my introduction to great sci-fi & fantasy literature waaaaay back in the early '70s when I read The Martian Chronicles. His works will live on.

Nobody steps up to take the place of these greats. The world has lost a giant thinker but at least we have his works.

On my bookcase are two extremely worn out paperback books from my grade school years: Fahrenheit 451 and the Martian Chronicles. I suppose I have read every book by him. He always has been and will forever more be one of my top 5 favorite authors.

Well, I think Frederik Pohl is still alive, but of the rest of the Golden Age SF writers . . . Clarke, Heinlein, Azimov, Poul Anderson, and many others . . . Bradbury was one of the last. He shall be missed, but he shall never be missing.
