So I have a chance to get a job as an auto salesmen at Nissan. I've never done auto sales and don't know anything about it. I do have 4 years in selling wine and food in a fine dinning restaurant so I'm not worried about the sales part but was wondering how the money is and if anyone has any tips. Thanks in advance!

I suppose it depends on how much you sell. I know a couple people that do very very well. I also know a couple that make very little because they suck at it.

Auto sales like other big ticket sales is all about qualifying and closing. Just about anyone can sell when the economy is good and people are swarming the lot. But a good salesman can look at a group of people on the lot and pick out the 2 or 3 that are most likely to purchase today and have the credit to do so.

this is the worst advice I've ever heard of...
Tell me what a car buyer looks like.. I beg of you.
If you're going to go into car sales... read "How to close every deal" by Joe Giraud. Best book ever.
I sell cars for a living. Everyone that walks in is a potential buyer or they wouldn't be there.

"How to close every day" is a great book. I've sold new Fords in the past. New is very very very different that used. Which one are you doing?

New. I'm talking to my old friend/ex coworker who is in sales for Audi and he's telling me about pay plans

What would be a pretty fair-good front end commission % be and what would (if any) a fair pack be?

I'm no good to you here. My Ford days were 10 years ago down in Phoenix. Itzfrank is probably your best bet on this question. Good luck!
