All Cigar Discussion>Concerns regarding bugs other than beetles
CRIMPS 10:35 PM 03-01-2012
So I received a couple of boxes from the same vendor. Upon inspection, I found some almost white bugs that weren't beetles in both boxes. Very small and tough to actually see with the naked eye. They reminded me of a small aphid. I don't think they liked the light either. I couldn't seem to capture them on camera.

The boxes went straight to the freezer. No damage was found, so I'm not too concerned. However, I would like to know about other bugs I should have concerns about other than just beetles.

Thanks.

Tobacco Mites?:-)

There are not the same as beetles, I think they are harmless

Good call Malazan.

Look like this? Tobacco mites. Not harmful. Wipe them off. Some people are allergic to them, so try and avoid breathing them or smoking the cigars without a damp (very lightly damp) soft cloth. Wipe in the direction the wrapper was rolled to be sure not to damage the wrapper.

It's "non-spelling", John. I believe they teach that in the 4th grade. :-)

As much of a problem as I have seeing to read without glasses, I would never seen them. Probably would've freaked a little. Good call on the freezer.

yeah, thanks for the info. A mite is a better description of what I believe I am seeing.

They're not mites, they're one-steppers. They call them that because when one bites you, you get one step before you die.
They're ten times deadlier than the Five Point Exploding Heart Technique.

Over 15 years of purchasing and smoking cigars and I have yet to experience any form of a bug/insect etc. I would reconsider your sources!
