Wow, is this the first email they have sent out about the event? If so, then that's bad business marketing IMO. Unless they fill up the place without marketing their events.
The local B&M's that I frequent in Tulsa usually email once a month at the very begining of the month about upcoming events.

Typically at least a week to plan would be nice. E-mails vary from the local B&Ms here but some notice is normal for events.

My local shop sends out an email once a week, sometimes more if new stuff comes in.
Every email has a list of upcomming events, new cigars, and accessories.

The shop I go to in ventura sends out emails once a week letting us know what the featured cigar and scotch will be for the Friday night events.

My local B&M which is Brad's favorite when he is in Florida, posts events on Facebook so if you friended them or liked them you will get notifications

My main B&M (cigars and more) sends out very informative and very timely emails, and repeats as the event nears.
