Island (The other ones) Reviews>My Father le bijou 1922 box pressed torpedo
Don Fernando 12:03 AM 10-23-2011
From what I've been told, cigar aficionados asked My Father cigars for a box pressed cigar and here it is, a box pressed torpedo with the My Father Le Bijou 1922 blend. This line didn't have a torpedo nor a box pressed cigar and the masterminds at My Father found this blend and shape to be perfect for a box pressed version. The cigar is not available in The Netherlands yet, but it will be soon. I got this cigar from John Gonzalez at the Intertabac trade show in Dortmund.

The dark Habano oscuro oscuro wrapper is oily and has some small veins. The cigar has the beautiful double My Father Le Bijou 1922 bands and an orange foot band. I smell peppery chocolate and feel a good construction. The predraw is a bit easy and I taste herbs and tobacco.

I taste spicy and peppery coffee with a chocolate pepper on the background and in the aftertaste. After half an inch I taste a bit sweetness, some chocolate, herbs and pepper. The herbs and pepper are a bit too strong, this is definitely that Pepin twang that you would expect from a My Father product. After an inch the cigar mellows out a bit, less pepper, a bit more chocolate and the sweetness grows a bit stronger. The herbs are still the main flavor. I do taste a little bit of pepper in the aftertaste.

Halfway I taste dry herbs with some chocolate and wood. After two thirds I taste dry herbs and near the end pepper in the aftertaste. The pepper packs some power and grows quite strong.

This cigar lasted me for an hour and twenty minutes. The draw was great, just like the smoke. The pepper and salt colored ash is firm. The burn is great. This cigar is full flavored and full bodied.

Would I buy this cigar again? Depends on the price I guess.

For my palate, I prefer the '22 Bijou to the regular My Father line. Prefer the petite robusto size, partly for price difference. Found some of these box pressed and was very pleased. Higher Quality construction, same great flavor! Only downside is cost, but you do get what you pay for with this stick!
