Shooting suspect left cell phone at scene of shooting, arrest report says
A 21-year-old man charged with attempted murder in a shooting did the next best thing to calling police.
He left them his phone.
On it, there were numerous pictures of *** Walker and text messages about a $300 drug deal that police said led to the shooting.
"Sometimes it helps when the bad guys aren't very smart," said *** Police Chief James Boivin.
Walker was arrested Tuesday in the Sept. 26 shooting at the Jennifer *** apartment complex at 741*** Ave., Boivin said. He said the victim lost the sight in his right eye as a result of being shot in the head.
At the scene, police found a cell phone belonging to Walker, according to the arrest report. It was never reported as lost and in addition to pictures of Walker contained texts and phone call evidence about a marijuana sale.
The victim told police he got into a car with the money and was shot by one of the two men inside. Walker's car was identified and blood was found where the victim said he was sitting.
The victim said the men took the $300. The Times-Union is not naming the victim because Boivin said police are still looking for other people in the case.
Walker, of the 5200 block of *** Road, has also been charged with robbery with a firearm. He was booked into the *** County jail Tuesday.
He refused to talk with police.
