A judge in southern France has ordered a 51-year-old man to pay his ex-wife about $14,000 in damages for providing too little sex during their 21-year marriage.

The man, identified as Jean-Louis B., was fined under a civil code provision stating that married couples must agree to a “shared communal life,” the Telegraph reports. The judge set the penalty at about $14,000 in U.S. dollars, the New York Daily News reports.

The judge from southern France’s highest court ordered compensation after the woman divorced her husband because of a poor sexual relationship. The ex-husband claimed his lovemaking was lacking because of “tiredness and health problems,” the Telegraph says.

Keith, it seems to me that the defendent had an airtight case, and his wife none at all, if I accept your report as legitimate.

In France, she would have been "mon amore", but "mi amor" implies the husband was in Italy, and thus could not have fulfilled his proper marital duties due to geographical distance . . . unless he was remarkably well-endowed. :-)

This almost deserves posting pictures of the couple.

Does this set legal precedent (sp) for the French men to sue their wives for denying them "marital relations" (PC term)?

I'm not sure it would stand up in court. :-)
