I picked this up at James and Sons in Saratoga Springs NY. Owner James Kommer recommended it after asking me a few questions to get a feel for what I like. The Carrillo is medium brown with some mottling - really very nice to look at. Firm, relatively heavy in the hand. The cap was perfect and it cut beautifully. The burn needed one touch up but conditions were very humid. Solid ash.

Prelight aroma is mild tobacco and spice. After lighting the first impression is smooth tobacco and a good balance between creamy and non-peppery spice. Some hints of leather in the latter two thirds and a nice tingle at the top of the throat. Medium full body. Did not heat up and no bitterness when I smoked it down to one inch. A fine tasting cigar that delivered 90+ minutes of enjoyment. I was sorry to see it end and finished with a feeling of relaxed contentment. Really a very good smoke.
I haven't yet sampled the wide variety of cigars that many here have but in my opinion the EP Carrillo Core Line seems to occupy roughly the same flavor/body/price territory as one of my favorites the kristoff criollo ligero. It compares very favorably with the kristoff IMO and I will buy more of these. Highly recommended.
