General Discussion>Thinking of making the switch from Uverse back to Comcast
forgop 11:04 AM 05-20-2011
I know, all of the cable companies suck, that said, after a year with Uverse, I think I'm done. They lure you into a Rolls Royce-like package for $182/month and after one year, I have to strip out 250 cable channels and get a $10/month "credit" for HD and a $5/month "credit" to keep my existing service to save a total of $18/month.

Before I switched from Comcast, at least they let me renew the same special I was under for like 5 years before they would no longer renew it.

We looked at Uverse, too. We've been with Dish for 8-9 years and I don't have any complaints. Didn't want to give a bird in the hand up. Glad I didn't now.

Duane, I too was recently tempted by the Comcast deals.
I called AT&T, told them what Comcast was offering and they beat it so they could keep me.
My bill dropped by over $75 and I have their 450 package to include more add ons.
I had the second lowest package at the time.
Give them a call if you are happy with them, which I am.

Be glad you have choices. We have UVerse because it's the only fiber connection available in our area. Dish Network's DVR software is leap years ahead of AT&T's and I'd switch back in an instant if I could. Unfortunately to make the internet and TV reasonably priced we have them bundled together and locked in for a year long contract :-)

I had the 450 package, internet, and phone for $182/month, which was set to expire after the 12 months tomorrow. Their solution to "save me money", was to downgrade me to the 200 package with the same internet/phone plans for $164. They're offering new customers the 450 package for $2 less/month than my 200 plan now in addition to a $200 gift card. I'll try again.

No fiber here, so the choice was Comcast or Dish/DirectTV and DSL. Decided to stay with Comcast in our new home. Can't really complain; rates are actually comparable when you compare apples to apples....service is fast and solid.

Not sure if Comcast's rates are comparable nation wide, or if different areas have substantially different packages / prices..?? For us, it basically came down to the devil you know, etc....

You need to let them know the offer being made to you by Comcast and tell them you hate to leave but it is all about finances.
Tell them to switch you to their top secret special "retention" department. Just joking on the top secret part.

It's official-I'm dumping U-Verse in a week. I'm going to get a better lineup with Comcast for $112/mo vs $162/mo for a crap package with U-Verse.

A month later and this still isn't complete.

I guess if your intelligence is so low that you figure that you can go into a house with 4 working TV's and leave with only 1 working TV, you're qualified to be an installer for Comcast.

I have 4 TV's, phone, and internet they were supposed to do for the install. When all is said and done, phone/internet with just 1 TV was working before he had to leave, not to mention a cable running above the ground until they bury it.

What kind of idiot goes in and does an installation thinking he should proceed when you're stuck with just 1 TV for another full week? His excuse was that if we didn't port the number today, I would have to wait another full week. I said at least I'd have TV's that operate throughout the house.

I think I'm just cursed to dealing with stupid people. I'm going to make sure this idiot doesn't step foot back in my house ever again though.

Maybe you're just like my Mother...she's never satisfied.

Why so we scream at each other? This is what it sounds like, when doves cry.

So, the above situation would be acceptable to you? One working TV in the house rather than 4 to share between 2 adults and 3 children for the next week?

Absolutely. I'd be thrilled if we had no tv whatsoever. I doubt I'd notice for the first month or so if we didn't have it. I know the wife wouldn't care, and of the two kids, one watches tv to any noticable degree, and that's only if she can't go outside or find someone to play with.
I'm skipping your point though. If the guy came and did half the job, I suppose I'd be pissed on principle.
You're lucky you're dealing with Comcast, I always had great luck with them, service-wise. We have Time Warner here, same thing. The last installer hooked me up with all new splitters to upgrade the ones in the house, all the cable I'd need to do the basement, and helped me out with another problem that he wasn't even there for.
All that cost me was getting the old boy a drink and giving him a hand while he was here. :-)

If I didn't have 2 drama queen daughters and a son with autism, there are a few things that can brim about peace and turmoil in the home. It's not necessarily for me, but when a 4 yo with autism has a meltdown because he wants to watch bugs bunny and the 2 girls want to fight over watching something different, it'll make you lose your mind for a bit. The cure is having to sit on the deck like I am now with a cc to decompress so to speak. :-)
