So I'm still very new to cigars and looking to try a bunch, I've been looking online and keep coming across these "Samplers". Some of them are 10 cigars for 20 bucks, 20 Churchills for 20 bucks, 50 churchills for 50 bucks. Very Very tempting, but is it worth it? I don't see how you can sell any decent cigars for 1.00 each. Am I missing something here or should I just steer away from these "Deals"?

Stay away, they are dogrockets if those are the prices they ask. $3 a stick is probably the cheapest I would go, as a general rule of thumb. There are great sticks at that price. Fuente short stories and Diesel Unholy Cocktails. Both are a good bang for your buck.

Just go to any cigar vendor that does line samplers, buy some fuente, pepin, padron, etc etc. Try 5-6 cigars from every line. Or you could do what I do, read reviews and see what tastes you like in your cigars. Be it Medium-full, spicy or not, woody, chocolatey etc etc etc.

Some of the five pack samplers are good. I just got one that had a tat that I really wanted to try and a couple others for $12, I thi k the tat alone is around there, many cpl dollars less

It really depends what you are used to smoking and what you like.

If you're already smoking cigars from General, Altadis, Pepin, Fuego, Fernandez, Oliva, Rocky, Fuente, DE, etc... you'll probably only find very little in the $1-2/stick samplers that you enjoy, if that much.

:-) Most are name brand samplers and also some of Holt's house brands are also very good.

Some of the samplers can be a good way to try out different cigars, but many are a lot of crap cigars with a few decent ones thrown in. Being on Oahu, you do have a couple B&Ms to choose from that can allow you to try a few singles. You will pay more than online, but at least when you do order you will get cigars that you like. Like others have mentioned, if ordering samplers try to stick to quality brand samplers like Pepin, Fuente, Padron, etc. Also, reading on here will guide you to some sticks that others think are good. While your tastes may be different from theirs, at least you won't end up with 20 cremosas and ghurkas.

Personally I would say the combination of who the retailer is and the price per stick is key.

First, if it is from a reputable dealer and not some random magazine ad , and you recognize the brands, go for it. (I would avoid Thompson's cheap samplers personally, they put a lot of there own house brands in those)

But saying that, I also would probably avoid the $1 per stick samplers as they are normally not even worth that as they will contain very off brands which aren't even worth the buck. The $2 per stick and up though, if you recognize some of the brands, could be worth the money.

Just my :-)
