We had a department meeting at work yesterday. Found out during the meeting that the company that bought us out a couple years ago had finally agreed to do a salary survey for our area and determined that we are underpaid.
:-)
After 3+ years of pay cuts and unpaid furloughs, we finally get our pay back up above what it was 4 years ago. Since my wife has been out of work for 3 yrs now and won't be able to get anything for at least 2 more yrs, when she gets her nursing degree, this is pretty much a godsend.
It's only about $140/week before taxes, but it is going to help get us back out of the hole we've been sliding down for the last 3 years and help pay for some necessary maintenance on the house and cars.
The only caveat is our department pay status was changed from exempt salary to hourly, so if things get slow and we get sent home, we no longer get paid for it; on the other hand we can finally get paid for the overtime we work, so maybe things will work out for the better in the long run.
