Hello Gents. I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with surgery, or any surgery alternatives. On Thursday, I broke my wrist in a weight lifting accident. It was truly youtube-worthy. Not only did I fracture a bone in the wrist, it is suspected that I tore ligaments - I will know for sure after an MRI sometime this week. I suspect after my MRI they will want to rush me into arthroscopic surgery and sever and reattach torn ligaments in my wrist. Undergoing surgery is a big decision for me and I was hoping to find an alternative. (Honestly, it scares the bejesus out of me) I asked around and I was told to look for ONDAMED practitioners or Prolo practitioners. Has anyone here ever had any experience with either modality? Straight-up wrist surgery? The surgeon says that the longer you wait, the worse off the surgery goes b/c the ligaments form scar tissue, but he sells surgery for a living, and I was wondering if it was worth waiting a little while to try these methods first. He is a well known surgeon in NY, so i'd hope he's honest. I will know more details about the damage after an MRI. I just want to investigate before I rush blindly into it. I'm freakin' out over here. Thanks very much for any info anyone has at all.

It depends on the severity of the tare. If it is that bad I would go with the doctor. Perhaps a second opinion. I have had surgery on my knee. It made a world of difference!! Good luck Brother.

I will tell you that surgery should always be your last option. When you are talking a break with ligaments possibly torn you should really wait till you see what the MRI says. No use worrying about the unknown. Enjoy the pain meds and look up stuff on the interweb. The answer sometimes is surgery or nothing. Just research your injury someone else has done it I promise.

Hahah, thanks! I haven't so much as taken a Tylenol or an antibiotic in ~9 years, so i'm not taking my perks, but honestly, I'm freaking so much I should probably take them just to calm down. Looks like the prolo is good stuff, butI'm worried that I'll wait too long and make surgery worse than it has to be if I form scar tissue. You are %100 right tho, gotta wait for the MRI to know anything at all.

You should wait for your MRI and do your research about alternative treatments ask your doctor what he thinks your options are then listen to what he has to say. If you don't like what he's telling you go see a second and third. If they all are coming up with sugery as your best option then its a good bet thats what needs to be done. I tore my ACL and MCL in high school playing football. I didn't want to take the recvory time sugery would need off so I tryed to rehab it. Worst mistake I ever made. Ended up needing the sugery anyway but by the time I had gotten it done my knee was in such bad shape I couldn't walk for almost a year. The amout of scar tissue that formed from my leg being immobilized for so long after the sugery was crazy.
