Anyone use a light box? My doc and I decided yesterday that it would be very good for me to try one since I get some mild S.A.D. symptoms during the winter. He suggested that I just go to home depot or a big chain store, but some research on my part indicates that a lot of progress has been made on these recently, so I thought I check to see if anyone who has been down this road lately had any advice to share.

I have a full spectrum Ott-Lite desk lamp, but I think that I want to get something like a light box that you use at specific times of day for short periods.

I think that I'll head out to home depot, lowes and maybe a good lighting store later today to see what they have. 10K lumens (min) is what the doc said.

I have no input but I'd like to hear about what find. I work from home so anything that makes my area brighter or more interesting catches my attention.

Google or Bing SAD lighting. Lots of sites with reviews and recomendations.
Curious about how effective these are myself.

I have the Ott-Lites myself for reading. You need something much brighter to shake the winter doldrums.

There's a company near where I live, sunbox.com, that carries a full-line of products. My mom, who is a psychiatrist, frequently refers patients to them and she says that she definitely notices positive results. I think I might be able to get you a discount as well, just tell them you were referred by Dr. Kim and they should give you a 20% discount on the light boxes.

Thank you, Jeremy! They are one of the vendors that I have looked at. They get some great reviews.

My wife had S.A.D. and used the light box for a bit. It seemed to help but you have to sit close to it for it to work and she was unable to use it at work. The full spectrum lights at Lowes did not work.

Glad to help. I actually purchased one of the sunrise alarm clocks they sell and I like it a lot, it's a cool alarm clock and a great reading light as well.
