I have a box of Tat Black Tubos sitting in the vino. I've smoked one but really think they need a significant amount of time before they become a good smoke. What's the best way to store them? Cap on, cap off, out of the tube, as it? Please advise...

Lots of answers and opinions about to come your way. Its an age old question.

You'll get tons of opinions. I store them as they are shipped. Just check the tubes once in a while for mold.

How long do you plan to store them?
If years, I leave the caps on. If for a few months, I'll take the caps off. To smoke within a month or two, I take them out of the tube to let them dry out. They taste like crap when wet, imo. They need to dry out and be kept around 60% to get "the full monte".
:-)
But basically like the others said, it's personal preference and there is no wrong answer.

Store them with the caps on and the day you plan to smoke one just drybox one of them.

I had mine with the caps off for a few months and then put the caps back on. No real reason... it just felt right as I had heard they shipped wet.

I'd store them in Vinnie's humi. Tat Blacks are everything I don't like all rolled up in one little package.
:-)
I'd store them out of the tubes, but that's me. It'd depend how wet they are, too.
I've never had a tubo that didn't mold. Even though mold doesn't turn me away from smoking a cigar, I'd rather not make any.

From past experience with Tat blacks, I have seen a vast improvement with age. The tubos reminded me of the corona gordas fresh. Since I want these to age quicker, I removed 1/2 of the ones I bought from the tube. The other 1/2 I left in the tube. I figure in 6 months to a year I will try one of each to see how they are aging.
If you have six or eight - remove three from the tubes, keep three in the tubes. Best of both worlds.

Thanks for all the help. I think I'm going to do caps half-on and half-off and see how that works for me.

Cigars age more gracefully in tubos. Keep them the way they are.
