So we just received an invitation to a Change of Command Ceremony for my brother in law. He will be taking over command of the Pacific Strike Team.

How big of a deal is this? I know if I ask him he will answer modestly.

Any Change of Command Ceremony/Responsibility is a HUGE event in the military. An invite from the incoming commander gives you a prime seat, perfect for photo taking. And they will treat you like a VIP.

Huge deal, get your suit pressed and pack your finest sticks.
My step dads brother is something or 'nother in the Navy and he got moved to the Pentagon for some consulting role. They flew us from Tx to DC for a large ceremony.

Congratulations to your brother in law and God speed in his new role.

I think you may be able to call him 'The Big Kahuna" for a while without repercussions, Moe.
Congrats to him.

My family was invited to Norfolk for my neighbors change of command,he took over the amphibious carrier Wasp.

That was a darn big deal.Breakfast in Officers Mess and tours of the ship.
Then a reception at his house.
All very humbling and much worth the experience.
Navy or Coast Guard.

That's' a LOT of real estate he's responsible for. Not to mention the ocean too. :-)

Congrats to him, and wishes for much success in his new post.

Let's just say it's a lot bigger of a deal than having you as a BIL.

Course, most things are.

:-)

Only the best to him and the new vast amounts of responsibilities he will take on, It is an honor to attend one. As it has been said dress the best and and taking the best sticks is in order.

Tell him congratulations. It's a very big deal and a sometimes thankless job. Just ask the CO of the Gulf Strike Team right now.
