I am a huge Blue Angels fan and go to see them whenever they come to town. This is an AF town but the Blue Angels draw a bigger crowd than the Thunderbirds. GO NAVY !!!! :-)

I've only seen them once at our local air force base......they couldn't get the t-birds to come. All these pilots are insane. I def do not have a set big enough to do what they do. One day I would love to be able to sit in the co-pilot seat though.

Hugh you missed the Barksdale Air Show again...put it on your calendar for next year. That is an order!

I live about an hour and a half from Pensacola FL where they are based. My parents would take me out to the beach and they would do airshows over the beach on some hilodays. What great fun that was to see. I haven't seen them in probly 10+ years or so now. But at the Pensacola Naval Air Museum you can actually sit in a few of the retired plane's cockpits. I've done that several times; I'm 6'2" and I had trouble getting in and out of them but was still fun.

Rockin - They put on a heck of a show!

Look at the beginning of the video as the canopy is closing - note the pilot only has a boom mike and no full oxygen mask. I've never understood that about the Blues. Seems to me they would rather have a full oxygen mask in case you get some kind of smoke or fumes in the cockpit. Without O2, with heavy smoke in the cockpit there ain't much of a choice but to get the heck out.

Also, as I understand it, the Blues don't wear g-suits due to center stick (vice the F-16 sidestick with T-birds). Argument is with center stick they can't tolerate the g-suit inflating and bumping their arms/hands when in close wingtip formation. Makes sense, but than think about pulling high G maneuvers without a g-suit!

You are correct- the Blues do not use g suits, the Thunderbirds do- for the reasons you state. Head of the class, my friend!
