So The Little Man(13 y/o) hit the ice for the first time with the JV hockey team last night. Though I was a bit worried about how the Little Man would do with the age/talent jump(adult Summer Hockey), he performed like a champ.... In fact, I think he was minimum top half of the players on the ice....both teams.
It was fun to watch him try to clear 30-40 year old men from in front of the net.... The Little Man is big....but he may need to work on his strength a bit.
All in all, a BIG SUCCESS night.... It is a special moment in a father's life when he gets to watch a child excel, especially when that involves wearing the Orange & Black.....

Excuse the quality of the pics... Shooting through net or glass all night...

Great pics and congrats!
I sure wish we had hockey down here when I was in high school. Until the Lightning came, I had to watch hockey on ESPN whenever I could catch it.
Now we actually have high school teams...
It's not fair I tell ya.

Though there are more than a few photos from game # who knows what into the Summer season..... Tonight was the first night that I noticed the other team getting chippy with the kids.....(it is a no check league) The Little Man was having none of it and was as physical as I have seen him for some time. He took some fairly cheap shots (IMO) related to it.... Even told me the old guys were getting chatty with him.....
Would guess turning 14, matching his number, eight days ago gave him some extra testostorone.....
:-)
First pic doesn't give justice to the pounding he was giving this guy in front of the net....

It is not all fun and games....and feeling like you can hang with the big dogs when you play against guys that are +/- twice your age....(& that is okay....and good learning experience)

He looks HUGE. He is only 3 years older than my kid, maybe the pictures skew things but he looks man-size.
My 11 year old is 90 pounds!

He is a big kid....man size I guess.... Not "thick" as you can see, but 6' w/ a size 13 shoe..... Not sure of his weight....maybe 140ish....

Better hope his feet stop there! LOL I know from experience the pain that lays beyond it. Hopefully he'll fill out some and be able to just own the front of the net.
:-) There aer many days that I think I'd have been a decent hockey player, but I grew up playing basketball. Unfortunately, I'd probably have been more like Derek Boogard than anyone else.
:-)
Cheer him on with pride and always tell him that he did a good job, as long as he gave it full effort.

Great pics! I have a big 14 year old hockey player as well. Of course he's a goalie, so the chippy things don't usually get too much, unless he's swinging his paddle into those dirty bums parked in his crease
:-) This is the first summer he hasn't played in 4 years, and while I don't miss the constant running, I surely miss being at the rink.

Great pics. My son played ice hockey for 10 years here. Both travel and high school. It was always a blast watching him play. He was a defense man. Always cracked me up when he would get into scrums and fights. Hockey is great.
