This is some Maple I recently acquired. I'm sure it will be a humi some day soon but I just had to show you what it looks like. I've never seen anything with figure like this. Hot rodders would kill for a paint job with this as flames.

Thanks, the woods are a real motivator. It'll be weeks before I can do anything with it but it sure makes me want to push on to get to the project. I think I'm going to do it in a James Krenov style. He was known for accenting the woods figure with simple yet elegant style. A true master.

Man those are some amazing pieces. How thick are they?

Are you thinking of making a humidor with full pieces on 4 sides? How would you best use it?

I could see it as an amazing top or front and sides of a large floor cabinet, or heck, just frame them and put em on the wall!

I just looked up Krenov and his pieces are amazing. I like how on most cabinets he'd put the handles or nobs in places depending on how it looked with the wood, he just wouldn't put the nob in the same place on every drawer or cabinet door, a simple but brilliant craftsman.

Something like the image below would be amazing with that maple!

I hope to start this project in a couple weeks. I'm pretty excited to see this come together myself. Krenov was an extremely talented craftsman. The client I'm building this humi for, I found out went to Krenov's school. At first we had just discussed a krenov style. He would like to build something himself but his work keeps him too busy. Now I have to try to live up to the standard of one of the greatest wood workers in our time. Something tells me I have my work cut out for me. I do like a challenge though. :-) I'll keep you updated as this comes together.

Sounds like a fun and challenging project!

Based on your other work that I've seen, I'm sure you'll do awesome, plus working with wood like that has just got to be fun!

Can't wait to see pics when you get started!

Wade, if you are going to build yourself a project, let me know. I have over 1000 sq ft of veneers. I'll hook you up.:-)

You're a good man Bill, I will keep that in mind if I need something one day!
Thanks,

I don't normally put up a pic of a humi before it's done but here is one I'm making with some of that burl I got a while back. I'm down to rubbing out the finish and doing the inside. More to come upon completion.
