Is it ok to leave a porcelain ashtray outside?

I leave mine outside, though if it rains and you have some nubs in it your gonna have to deal with the tobacco tea that's created....

I don't see why not.... But I wouldn't leave it sitting in the rain, as the unfinished portions of it are porous and can be affected. My buddy leaves his outside all year, but when he is done with it, he sets it under the cover of his patio.

Yeah I was just thinking they might be prone to cracking when it freezes. It would be fairly protected. The glass ashtray I have now is very thick, heavy glass and has survived fine. It just was not made for cigars and is hard to balance a stogie on the edge.

I leave mine outside, but I do notice that the ones I leave outside age faster than the ones I leave indoors. The ashtrays that constantly sit in the sun start to get fine cracks in the finish.

It does not stop me from doing it...

I keep my Passion ashtray outside in my shed 24/7. As low as the teens this year. No issues. Similiar ashtray.

No, dont leave it outside!

Mine was destroyed when it dropped below freezing. The thing is all cracked to hell now.

i had wondered about this myself. i have a nice RyJ porcelain ashtray - it sits outside in a screened in patio. we frequently get below freezing here in nashville but so far i see no issues with it.

I left mine outside before Christmas and when the wife was putting up Christmas lights she hit it and broke it into a bunch of little pieces. She didn't tell me until a month later. Not happy.

That's what I'm afraid of... guess I'll stick glass or plastic. Now to search garage sales!

All in all, I was out $10.00...its three empty Dr. Pepper cans, two-sided tape, a bucket, and a little bit of ingenuity...plus, it means I have a place to dump my indoor ashtrays at the end of the night....

That's pretty cool! I might rig something up myself. :-) And yes, Bob, I live south of the Mason Dixon! :-)

Where I live was never affected by a Mason-Dixon line...I made it out of spite towards Stinky Ashtrays...I too can take cheap cheap materials and put together an ashtray...however...my "fingers" are spring loaded...they are strong enough to not dump the cigar, yet weak enough too not fall off...it took a little bit of work...You are getting one now Bob....

I am stealing this idea, but with a Heineken bucket, and Coke cans.
