Do any of you have experience with Emachine laptop computers? My wife wants a laptop, and she's found an Emachine laptop on sale. I don't know the tech particulars, but was just wondering in general if these are decent computers. Thanks!!

Emachines are decent computers, but not great. For a $300 laptop it may be worth it, but I would consider other vendors before buying it.
I've only had experience with Emachines desktops, but have had problems with power supplies. With a laptop, replacing parts isn't so easy so that may be a reason to look for better.
Maybe post the specs and we'll do some comparison shopping.

I got a cheap one for 200 bucks on black Friday. Only use it for surfin the web and such but it has withstood the abuse i put it through carrying it to work and back every day and such. Seems like a nice laptop to me especially for what i paid for it.

I am not a computer guru at all but have been shopping for a surfing unit lately. Emachines used to be pretty bad along with Gateway but they both went broke and Acer who makes pretty decent stuff took them both over so perhaps they are now pretty decent stuff also. I have had 2 Acer units, a desktop and a laptop and both performed very well, still using the laptop which was a year ago a nice $400 unit. Would also appreciate some input from some of the many computer gurus around the nuthouse to assist my shopping for just an email, net surfing and maybe MSOffice use machine.
:-)

Acer makes decent stuff? Does Spock have a goatee in this universe?
:-)
I haven't used any eMachines laptops but we had a horrible experience with my wife's desktop. Power supply went and took the motherboard with it. That happens with a laptop and you're pretty much done. You might be better off looking for a refurb from one of the big names.

Nothing wrong with an Acer, My father in-law has used one for about a year now. So far so good.

They're ok my friend has got the life cycle he intended from his; an early x64 laptop. I think Gateway owns them. I like Acer's netbooks; great value on the low end. My mom bought this for under $300 and I was impressed:
