Hey fellas,
I recently received an Edgestar 28-bottle wine cooler and am in the process of converting it to a humidor thanks to Chas! After a few days of it being plugged in, it has stabilized at 60/61 degrees. I have cranked on the knob towards the warmest level but that's it. I have 5 empty cigar boxes and beads in there.
I bought a timer at someone's recommendation but the RH level drastically drops when the cooler turns on so I have it constantly running to see what happens. I can set it to come on for 15 minutes but that is almost too long.
So is that temperature fine for long time storage and for smoking cigars now? I have read that is slows the aging but should be fine, but just wanted to see what opinions are out there...

In the winter my coolers in the basement get down into the low 60's and even very high 50's regularly and I've had no ill effects.

Opininions are certainly available. I have experimented and questioned experienced cigar folks over the years and from that my opinion is that 60 is just fine. Only problem might be that it is a little harder to keep the humidity up with lower temps but you can deal with that easy enough.

Oops, the wrong smiley icon came up at the end of my post... I'm really not yelling at you guys for opinions and I can't edit it!

Thanks for the responses, I appreciate it!

If it works for you and you like your smokes that way I see no ill effects. My coolers usually are between 62-65 degrees.

I agree with what's been said here. 60's are fine.

Lower temps are fine, in fact people even freeze cigars, although I wouldn't recommend it unless you have to for the dreaded beetles. 60 is fine.
