All Cigar Discussion>Fakes in the D.R.

I am sure that this indisputable fact has been posted here before, but I thought about cementing it even more to those who wonder, or will soon be going on a trip to the beautiful D.R.

We flew into Punta Cana on Sunday, and made our way to the Dreams at Palm Beach Punta Cana, excellent resort with an amazing beach front... sugar sand, green/blue/clear water with all inclusive drinks/food galore. I lit up an Opus PC (when in Rome and all) and we went in search of dinner. We passed the cigar shop, which consisted of a huge cabinet humidor OUTSIDE but under cover. Anyway, I begin to look the boxes over, and from afar, they look legit. But upon closer inspection of maybe 5 feet or so, the packaging is wrong, and the seals look bad.

......and then, I see the final nail in the coffin.... the glass top Cohibas, in several vitolas. So, in a final word, they're fake, all fake, and its a shame too as this resort, and I'm sure like many others offers loads of comfortable places to smoke.

On a side note, when we first got there, I noticed in the lobby an ashtray roughly 3 feet from the lobby desk. I lit up right there and no one so much as batted an eye...... it felt all so perfect.

We leave on Sunday to go back to the real word, but for right now, this Famous Nic 6000 (blended and rolled by Amilcar Perez, I'm sure you guys know who he's kin to) and this Bohemia Especial are tasting pretty damn great..... thanks for reading, and any questions about the D.R. resort experience I would be happy to answer.

You should post pics of your trip! Also willing to split the glass tops? :-)

Sorry to thread jack here!:-)

Damn. Dreams Punta Cana was where I bought and smoked my first "real Cohiba". It was on my honeymoon.

I mentioned it in a thread here
http://www.cigarasylum.com/vb/showthread.php?t=21468

O-well. I guess for our anniversary I will have to track down and smoke a real one!

Sad news but I would rather know the truth. Thanks for the info.

^^^ Wow man, I feel like a real A hole. And to save your fantastic memory from your honeymoon, lets consider the following:

a.) I'm human, and could easily be wrong, and it wouldn't be the first time, nor the last.

b.) maybe some of the Cohibas were actually real, but when I saw the glass tops, I wrote the rest off regardless.... but who is to say the rest couldn't have actually been real.

See, I think thats enough doubt to wonder whether or not what you smoked was the real deal or not, and besides, it ain't about the brand in the end, its the taste, and its the the people and experience.
