I have a Nikon Coolpix 2100 2.0 MP camera. The 256 MB Lexar Compact Flash "12X" card no longer works. I get a "This card can not be used" message. I've used this card for several years and it worked great. How common is it for flash cards to "give up the ghost"?
It seems like all flash cards are now much larger in capacity. Anyone know if these cards will work in an older camera?
Thanks, WyoBob

The max size it can use depends on the firmware Nikon loaded back in the day on the camera. I would guess max for that time you'd be looking at 1GB. I'll look and see if I can find out.
As for the CF Card you buy make sure to get Type 1. I saw its a type 1 and therefore type 2 CF Cards will not fit in your camera.
EDIT: Yup, 1GB.

This is very common. Flash cards are vry cheap memory adn without going into too much boring detail the have an issue with writing over the same spot...no drive wear leveling. The card has simply reached teh end of it's life. Just remember to destroy the card before you throw it away since data always has a chance of being recovered.

Ya CF cards can go. I had one go on me after I took a bunch of pictures to find out it was empty. WTF!

Thanks for the link, Jason.
Don, thanks for the generous offer. While we're at it, you don't have any extra beta tapes lying around?
:-) (J.K.) I'm the other guy who bought a Beta machine (and I still have it!)
Don: pm sent.
Thanks, Bob

I had a V2000, because you could use both sides of the tape
:-)

I still have a box of Beta tapes at my parents, guess I have to take the next time I am there and throw them out as I don't know anybody with a working machine

In a post a few weeks ago, I'd asked about flash card problem I was having with my camera. Ferdinand (Don Fernando) responded:

So, I ask you, does this look like an "a" or "it" to you! ?

Now I see why they call this place the asylum
:-)
Thank you very much Ferdinand. Way above and beyond. All of the cards work, btw. I'm very much looking forward to trying the cigars you sent. I've been in a bad cigar rut lately and am looking forward to something new.

sending one card isn't the way of the asylum Bob, and if I am sending something to the US, why not add a few smokes?
