Accessory Discussion / Reviews>Vinotemp is dead :(
Razorhog 07:32 PM 07-28-2009
My vinotemp has died. My wife said it was making a funny noise, and low and behold it was just making a beeping noise. I had noticed the last few weeks it had not been cooling like it should. When I cranked the temp down it used to "kick in" and cool down pretty fast. Now it just beeps :-)

I got it March 17th, 2008. Anyone had one die on them? Do I have any recourse from either Target or Vinotemp? It still holds humidity like a champ but I'd rather it cool too :-)

Sounds like the compressor has gone bad. :-)

BTW- Welcome to the Nut House! :-)

Sorry to hear...this was one reason I went with a 150qt cooler. Although the vinos are great...they will eventually "putt out". The vinos are definetly sexier.

even if it doesn't cool...it sure is a sexy looking humidor with all the cool trays/shelves you can buy for it.

I believe they have a 5 year manufacturer's warranty.

Well I still haven't gotten around to fixing this problem. Looks like the control board is $35 plus shipping, but says out of stock. Also looks like there is some soldering involved, and I have never soldered anything.
As for the warranty: Thermoelectric Units: 90 (ninety) days from the date of sale.

Blarg...

They dont have compressors, they use a peltier cooling disk.

I leave mine unplugged.

Looks nice :-)

It's like a well insulated cooler with a stylish door and drawers/shelves.

I'd have to agree, even without the cooling it's gotta be better than a coolidor. LOL. I'd buy the board & fix it. Soldering is easy but a little difficult from here. *S*

Man, if you were close I'd solder for you. I enjoy the chance to solder from time to time.

I fixed my Vinotemp VT-12teds yesterday! Not sure what took it out, but with as many electrical spikes and outages as we have here in Arlington, I would imagine that is what did it in. And yes, it's plugged into a protective power supply. I had to go purchase a soldering gun since I've not soldered anything since my 7th gra...de shop class when we made crystal radios. There were only two wires that required the soldering gun to release on the old board and solder in on the new one. The others were all snap on plastic couplers. Kind of makes one wonder why those two were not the same type of couplers?

I got this about two years ago at a Target after Christmas sale for $25.88 and they list now for $165.99 plus shipping. So after $31.00 for the soldering gun and $35.00 for the circuit board, it's up and running like new.

Now to wait for the relative humidity to balance out between 60%-70% and it'll be ready to hold my "stash". I love it when a plan comes together. ;^)
