In fact, while reading this thread, I had an 1-1/2 worth fall on my sweatshirt and onto my keyboard...
:-) I just keep a can of spray air out here on the table so I can de-ash the keyboard....

I usually knock it off around 3/4 to 1 inch, but if it is a cigar i have never had before, I want to see how long it holds

As long as the wind allows, if I am inside I keep it on as long as possible. I just set it on the ashtray and let gravity do her work.

I only tip my ash after it gives me timely service & gets the order right.
Then it's usually 20%.

I usually let it get about an inch, inch and a half and think to myself "I'll ash after the next puff." Then the ash thinks to itself "F*cK this, I'm gonna dump all over this guy right
before his next puff, He'll never know what hit him!"
And so, the constant stuggle between man and ash rages on. Sometimes the sun smile upon me and Man becomes the victor, while other fights are lost to the burnt cinder and it's ongoing battle cry of "You can tell your washing machine to kiss my ASH!"

I can usually get a pretty good feel for when it's getting weak, so I'll ash it then. Now and then I'm wrong.

1 to 1-1/2 most times. If I am smoking a Cigar new to me I want to see how the cigar is constructed. Also for reviews I let it hang...:-)

I let it go as long as I can and when I start to see it bending or signs of cracks I knock er off

Outside I just let it go on its own, inside about every inch or so.

I think about ashing as soon as I am wiping the ash off my lap.

I usually don't notice much of a difference. I don't by any means ash every puff but usually not over an inch or so. If I'm out on the patio and It's a nice ash I let it go till it falls.

Much better then my solution of returning the laptop to work for another when the keys start to stick. I imagine the next user would appreciate that also.
