General Discussion>Steak and cigars in Chicago?
Mark C 09:03 PM 04-21-2009
I'll be in Chicago on business for a night or two in early May. Seems like there are a ton of steakhouses in town, can I smoke in any of them? Anybody got a favorite? Not real worried about price (since it ain't my money), but I'm not wearing a tie to dinner.

Alternatively, any chance there's a good rum bar in town?

I'll be staying in one of the Marriotts near O'Hare, but I'll travel if the traffic isn't difficult.

while steak houses are plentiful (and beyond just the typical ones that always gets an obligatory mention) there will be no smoking in any of them :-)

As of January 1, 2008, smoking is only allowed at B&Ms and select hotel rooms in Illinois.

That being said, last summer Sullivan's was accomodating cigar smokers with an outdoor seating area for an after-dinner smoke. No food or drink service...and I am not sure they will be doing it again this year. Early May weather can be a crapshoot in Chicago for outdoor smoking.

Nice B&M, Cigar King in Skokie, IL, is about 9 miles from Rosemont. Rosemont has Gibsons, Mortons and Harry Carey's for the steak part.

One of my fondest memories was sitting with about 6 BOTLs at the downtown Morton's, smoking, drinking, and eating some fineass food, for hours. The smoking section was twice as large as the non-smoking section. Those were the days :-)

Thanks for the tips! Bad traffic huh? I'm used to driving around DC in rush hour, can't imagine it's worse than that... maybe I'll stay close to the hotel though :-)

If you decide to go to Cigar King, Mark, let me know what night. If I am off work that night I will try to get over there.

Yes Mark.. Illinois is now SMOKE FLIPPING FREE, except in cigar lounges. GoneSledn and I live about 30 minutes south of OHare. We have an excellent smoke shop by us. There are many Downtown as well.
