Island (The other ones) Reviews>A Fuente Hemingway maduro
e-man67 05:57 PM 04-15-2009
Well I haven't smoked in 2 days so I was really looking forward to it when I got home. I grabbed a A Fuente Hemingway from 2007 I scored from a brother. I am sure there is a name to this size but I don't have it on hand (it's long). The wrapper has some pretty good sized veins and bumps...not what you would expect. I clip the end and take a dry draw..a bit tight but I can manage. So I light the pointed end with a few wood matches and I gotta suck the hell out of it to get it started. So it produces very lite smoke and I am getting a nutty sickening sweet flavor from the thing...almost no spice. The damn thing starts wedging on me until half way through it evens out. Not a happy camper with this one...I expected so much more. Just very disappointing...this is the first Hemingway of this size I have had. I have had smaller hems and much more pleasurable experiences from them. This must be a curly head with a maduro wrapper. :-)

Wrapper: 6
Draw:5
Taste:4

Sorry this was a disappointing smoke. I've got a couple WOAMs and a classic maduro that I've been looking forward to. Hope they live up :-)

If it's a curly head they are only good when you can't find any other cigar to smoke,,,even with a Fuente name they are worthless,,,more like a cheap drugstore cigar. On the other hand if it was a Masterpiece then it should have smoked a lot better than what you smoked.

The WOAM's are the best in the hemmingway line. They are really short though so you would be able to figure out what it is just by looking at it. You either had a classic or a signature. They can be totally hit or miss.

One of my first cigars was an AF Hemmingway Signature and it was fantastic. Next time you clip it and the draw feels tight, try draw boxing it for a day and see if that helps. I've had great cigars that turned out terrible from sucking a golf ball through a hose problem.

Yeah, you are right. I will try the clip and draw box next time.

If you want a good relatively cheap Fuente check out the Flor Fina 858 Maduro, they satisfy evertime. :-)

Sorry to hear about this. Sometimes, with the Hemingway line, I have some early frustration trying to get a good draw as the burn makes its way past the initial nipple. But, honestly, I've never had a bad one once they open up.

Hopefully this occasion was an anomoly.

I like the Hemingway Short Story the best.

Didn't know Untold Story came in a maduro...

Personally, I like the Hemingway maduros as much or more than most smokes from anywhere.

Yes, they do come in maduro, I had 2 at one point. I think i still have a pic of it somewhere on my comp.

Sucks to hear about your bad experience though. They're good cigars but I've had my fair share of "plugged" hemmingways, mostly in the short story and classics.
