General Discussion>LA to Sacramento... I-5 or 99?
kgoings 11:26 PM 04-13-2009
Around Bakersfield the I5 and 99 split and then meet up again in Sacramento Mapquest tells me to take I5, but my GPS always tells me to take the 99...does it matter?

I-5 all the way. Less chance of an accident snarling traffic. Higher speed limit as well. :-)

We have driven Phoenix to Sacramento 3 times now, Friday will be the 4th ( in less than 2 years) and we make it in just under 11 hours..I know not particularly stellar. But we have always gone the 99 route.

From the split till Sac the 99 is about 4-5 more miles than taking the I-5, not much diff. but traffic is always the clincher, I always go the 5. On the other hand the 99 has many more towns along the way.
