I have been fortunate enough to pick up 10 opus X the past 3 days and was wondering what everyone's thoughts on how long i should wait to light one of these up.

I smoked one I've had for a little more than 3 years last week, and to be honest, I preferred them fresh.

Edit: Just so it's out there, I'm aware that I'm probably in the minority here

Try one now, then another in few months, then another in a few more months and so on. You'll be able to see for yourself the progression or regression for this particular cigar.

It all depends on your taste preference. Which you already know.
If you like spicy in your face pepper then light it while you're paying for it.
If you like mellow smooth with lots of....."Umfffffffff" wait a couple years...some say 4 to 10.

I am like a few out there, I love them fresh, BUT I also love them with 4+ years on them. They are like another cigar (in the FFOX line of course).

Smoke one now and smoke one later and smoke one sometime after that.
You will be able to form your own opinion on new vs aged somewhat.

I'm not sure that age does alot for 'em in my experience...I've had a couple at about 5 years and don't think they standout against a fresh one.

Like stated smoke one every few months say 4-6 till you find your ideal. Just make sure to take notes on the flavor profile so you don't forget what they were like the time(s) before.

I like them with a year on them. After that haven't noticed alot of difference. :-)

Definately take notes!!!! One of the best habitts I have developed is keeping a journal on the cigars I smoke. Age, Box Codes, Etc. The Opus x I have tried have not impressed me though. Hope your's are to your liking.:-)

The Petit Lancero opus X are ready to smoke right out of the box.
The other sizes I would sit on for at least 6 months

I enjoy them with some time on them fresh they seem to be a little in your face to me. If you haven't had one yet try one now and as others said try the rest over time. It's hard for this cigar to live up to the hype. I didn't realize how much I liked them with a few years on them till I smoked one blind.

I like them with a lot of age on them. I'd definitely smoke one now, then wait for a year or so and have another. Be sure to save some for a special occasion smoke. Maybe have one on your birthday for the next ten years.
Or just smoke 'em all up and buy some more!
There's no magic, just enjoy!:-)

It's really a matter of preference. I usually give mine about 6 months to a year before lighting the first one of a batch. I've smoked many, many Opus and my preference is a year of hybernation. My :-)

I'm sure you wont be disappointed. just keep in mind these are very good, but I would say it is almost impossible for them to live up to the amount of hype they have received.

I most frequently hear people say Opus Xs are better with age but as I understand it, they are made with aged tobacco so they should smoke great fresh too.

i try not to let any cigar get too much of a hype. I have done that a couple of times and ended up not liking the cigar. So i go in with an open mind.

one reason i buy two of everything i want to try. try it now and then again after some time.

For me its the magical 3 years. The ones I have from '05 are smoking damn well right now. The '08s and '07s aren't the best right now IMO. I haven't tried and '09 yet, but I just picked up some not too long ago... I will say, that the most recent crop has a very very very light wrapper compared to the previous few years. I wonder if it will be quite a bit milder and as such, might be better fresh...

I would say with 10 of them, smoke one now and decide what you think... if they suck bad, wait another year and try again... if its decent but not great, then re-visit in 6 months. :-)
