General Discussion>Speedo Pinned - SAAB
mosesbotbol 07:34 AM 02-28-2009
Was talking with a coworker on "What's the fastest you've been in a car..."

About 10 years ago I drove to Montreal in a friend's SAAB 9000 CSE. Car had wonderfully grippy Toyo's, brought it up to speed and snapped this picture. The speedo was pinned, but how fast were going? Your guess is as good as ours. What a nut to get that photo!

To complete the conversation with my coworker. I thought the SAAB speedo went higher, so actually I have gone little faster in my old S2000.

I used to have a 9000 myself and the thing gripped better than any car I've had. Can't believe you snapped that pic while going that fast!

In college we pinned the speedo of my buddy's Ford Bronco, but I think it maxed out at 80. :-)

I pinned the speedometer on my Hyundai accent! Then crested a hill, saw the cop, got pulled over, and was given the 350 ticket!!!

How very exciting that must have been for you and your friend and his car!

The fastest I've driven was on a Kawasaki GPZ 1100 motorcycle.I pegged the Speedometer at 170 mph.

Nice pic. Never would have occurred to me.

Have had my Boxster up over 130 a couple of times. Haven't come anywhere close to pinning it yet.

Been in a friend's Viper going much faster, but I wasn't driving.

Top up or down? I went 142 in the S2000 with the top down and it really took some work to get beyond 115. I could really start feeling the drag with the top down.

**** Notice ****

I take no responsibility if you choose to take a snapshot of your car’s speedo faster than the 9000’s and you get a ticket and/or accident.

It would be cool to see who can do what to outdo the original photo.

Never pegged the speedos because the cars weren't capable of that, but when I was 16 I maxed out both of my parents' cars.

Maxima SE maxed out at 140. Acura Legend maxed out at about 142 or 143. I'm lucky to be here today since it was on a 2 lane country road populated by a lot of deer.

My old 350z had a governor at 159. Somehow I got the digital speedo to register 160. :-)

I pinned a Mitsubishi Eclipse Turbo and swore the next time I ever dreamed of something like that, I would shoot myself first.
While exciting at the time, it scared the crap out of me when the car hit a slight incline on the road and actually felt like it went air born.
Never again.
I can't imagine having considered taking a photo as was too busy planning how I was going to wipe my butt once I slowed down.
What it was like to be half the age I am now.

Up. Never had it much over 100 with the top down. Too damn much wind. Screws with my cigar :-)
