I got a new puppy a couple months ago from a local rescue and brought her to the vet for a heartworm test earlier this week (we had to wait until she was 7 months old).

The vet said she's negative for heartworm, but tested positive for Lyme Disease and put her on antibiotics right away.

Does anyone have any experience with a dog diagnosed with Lyme Disease? I've researched online a bit, and it seems pretty straightforward with treatment by antibiotics, but the list of complications/symptoms is a little scary (ongoing joint problems/pain, kidney problems, digestive problems, etc ...).

We've had her on monthly flea/tick application since we got her, and even gave her a Lyme Disease vaccine suggested by the vet since we're in an area bad for ticks at her first vet visit. But the vet said she could have had it for a while and may have been infected by a tick up to 5 months ago.

A few years back my dog developed a flull blown case of Lyme disease. She was so bad that she couldn't move. Almost totally paralyzed. Once her treatment started, she began to improve after 24 hours. She kept getting better and within 4 days, she was totally back to normal. Never happened again and had no lasting effects. She returned to her normal happy self and lived her life to the fullest.

Thanks for sharing your experience. After only 2 days of treatment she already seems to be perking up quite a bit and appears to be improving.
