Wifey and I spent a week in So Flo, here's a review and some pictures.
To say there's a lot to see, do and eat down there would be an understatement. Oh yeah, and seafood, seafood, seafood.
We had dinner at Charley's Crab on "the island" (that's Palm Beach for those of us that work for a living). There's a reason it's a five star restaurant. It's definitely a hoity-toity. place. I'm OK with hoity, but I draw the line at toity.
Lunch in South Beach: Endless miles of pristine beaches, and blocks and blocks of outdorr cafes. Lots of beautiful people (and me) go there. It's worth the experience. While you're there swing by Lincoln Road, it's a pedestrian mall with tons of cool shops and restaurants.
Islamorada Fish Company: go for happy hour, they have a good one.
Hard Rock Seminole Casino: Where else can you eat, drink, smoke and gamble before 9:00am?
Little Havana: Calle Ocho (8th Street from 16th to 11th Ave) If you've ever been to South Central LA , you know what Little Havana is like. It's barrio with a couple of cigar stores. La Gloria Cubana and El Titan de Bronze are still there, but Don Pepin has moved. If you're already in Miami and smoke cigars, it's worth a SHORT trip, but otherwise I'd skip it.
Ft Lauderdale: Miles of great beaches, and Las Olas Blvd. Take the water taxi to see how the rich and famous live. The amazing thing isn't the mutli-million dollar yacht in front of the mutli-million dollar mansion, it's the fact that there are literally blocks and blocks of mutli-million dollar yachts in front of blocks and blocks of mutli-million dollar mansions. Each one bigger and more ornate than the next.
The Keys: Key West is where the parties are, and where Ernest Hemingway lived. He loved to fish, hunt, eat, drink and smoke cigars. The crazy thing is he made a good living writing about it. He's my hero !!
