I use this on beef, chicken or shrimp.
Tonight was shrimp over brocolli, carrots & saffron rice.:-)

1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup dry sherry or sweet vermouth
1 teaspoon basil
6-8 crushed garlic cloves
1 Tablespoon honey
2 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon 5-spice

Whisk all ingredients. Pour over desired meat (insert joke here).
Let sit while you smoke a Robusto (1hr. 20 min. - 1 hr. 40 min).
Can either barbecue or saute, your call. Works great either way.
Serve with your favorite veggies over rice.

For a special summer treat, try this with bottom round steak or similar cut, & after cooking refrigerate. Slice VERY thin & serve over salad with romaine lettuce, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, baby corn, carrots, onion, pepper, & tomato. Killer!!:-)

Being of Chinese descent, I take no offense in the usage as an adjective as it is being used in this case.

From Wikipedia:
The Orient is a term which means "the East". It is a traditional designation for anything belonging to the Eastern world or the Far East. In English it is a metonym describing Eastern Asia. It was also used to indicate the eastern direction in historical astronomy as the adjective Oriental.

BTW, using fresh ginger and not powdered is key and will make all the difference in this marinade.
