As very new to the pipe thing, I'd certainly appreciate your recommendations as to what manufacturer makes a good quality briar pipe (in the price range of $50 - $150).
I've looked at Savinelli and Peterson. Really liked the Peterson Claddagh (01) fishtail. (They had them at Smokingpipes.com but I no longer see that model in their inventory).
So, any recommendation for a good manufacturer, specific pipe and/or source?
Thanks in advance for your input.
:-)

If you just started out a good Cob would be a better bet....but I have 4 estate briars and they all smoke wonderfully but I have 2 Petes that are my crown Jewels. I plan on picking up a couple more petes after the holidays.
Just find something you like to look at, comfortable to hold and smokes well.

If there are crappy Savs or Petes I haven't heard much about them. I have one of each and they're both fine smoking pipes.
But what Shawn said is worth considering. Work with cobs or a modest meerschaum - no drying time and no flavor ghost. Both cobs and meers are excellent to smoke until you find you way around to the briar that looks and feels just right.
