A great read by Patrick A. of stogieguys.com.

Basically, keeping some ash on your cigar helps the flavor. Constantly knocking off the ash and/or rubbing the foot can affect the burn and flavor. Worth a read. :-)

One man's opinion. :-)

Keeping some ash will keep the burn somewhat cooler indirectly affecting the flavor.
Rubbing the foot? I can't understand why anyone would do that.

I think I may do that -- unintentionally -- when I am trying to remove the ash in an ashtray...

When I am at home I don't mind if I get ashes on myself or my surroundings (usually the ground or deck). However, when I am at a lounge I hate to get ashes on myself or surroundings, so I am constantly trying to flick of the ashes in an ashtray. A couple of times I rubbed the tip of the cigar to remove some ashes. Really F'ed up the burn, but I did not notice any change in flavor (but that could be my insensitive palette :-))

I'm even worse about this if I have food around me -- I don't like ashes in my food...:-)
