Why is it that after all these years, the sound of a supercharged Merlin V-12 with open headers screaming overhead STILL gives me goosebumps...every single time.

(swoon)

Love the sound of any V12 on forced induction, but there are many V8 that sound sick with turbos or super chargers.

Detroit 71 series Grey Marines. There's this fantastic rhythmic mechanical clatter from the valves and injectors that makes it's way through the 2-stoke exhaust. If you're lucky enough to get to work on them when they are running and ventilation is mostly secured, it sounds like a fleet of angry sewing machines in the engine room.

The 671 detroit makes a mean note out of a marine exhaust.

Always loved the sound of a rotary being able to rev out to 12-13K. Plus the rotary has such a unique sound.

The sound I love is a P-51 mustang screaming by at full speed. One of the most notable sounds out there. I freakin love it.

+1, or the low rumble of a number of B-17's flying over.

And B-29's. Love going to air shows. And no matter HOW many times the announcer screams, "THAT'S the sound of FREEDOM!" when planes go roaring by, I never get tired of it. :-)

There's a team of P-51's called The Horseman that do the shows at Ellington Field. Their low fly-by's always make the heat and humidity worth it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACmzdA3PE04 - good P-51 vid

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ys7QqNTASWk - better P-51 vid

And without further ado....
