For years, I've been a nail "picker" rather than a nail biter. It seems like when I'm stressed, I'll sit there and just pick at all of my finger nails rather than use nail clippers, which obviously leaves me with nasty looking nails. I'm to the point that I want to stop this habit as it'll look bad with patients seeing nasty finger nails on my hands as their being poked and prodded.
I've thought about hypnosis, but the things I see available to buy as a generic issue to fix centers around nail biting and not necessarily nail picking. No idea if nail biting would help me with the picking or not.
Anyone have thoughts on this?

Worked with a guy 30 years ago who tried hypnosis to quit smoking. One day shortly after he started this, I went into the restroom at work. The lights were out. Even though it was totally dark, I heard a noise in the very back stall. When I called his name, he answered "yesss." He was back there in the dark smoking a cigarette. It seems that the hypnosis had a bit of a "stange" effect on him.
