The Iditarod sled dog race starts today. Any other fans out there?

I was in Faribanks last year when this was happening and didn't have a clue what the Iditarod was. At least now I have a better understanding. Go Lance Mackey!!

I have followed it for about twenty years. My cousin is Jeff King who retired last year. I'm not sure who to cheer for now since all of the favorites are his old rivals who I used to cheer against.

I started following the Iditarod a few years back for no specific reason other than taking the family to Alaska for vacation. I'm sorry and surprised that your cousin retired. The rivalry with Lance Mackey the last few years has added a lot to the race.

When it's on I'll watch it for something different...a whole new breed of racers in that race.

He is 55 and the Iditarod is incredibly physically demanding. He would have been done a decade ago in most sports. The Mackey rivalry has definitely been exciting.

John Baker of Kotzebue Alaska has just won the Iditarod in record time of 8 days 19 hours and 46 seconds. Congratulations John!
