I wonder how much it would cost to get a bottle, and then would it be worth a dang. It would be cool if they could figure out the recipe.

My bet is it's probably not the kind of beer you want to age and certainly not for 200 years.

More than likely they found the last bottle of Old Milwaukee's best:-)

My wife won't even let that sh!t in the house, she says it stinks. Imagine how skunky a 200 year old bottle of beer is. :-)

There's a bottle of 200 year old Madeira being auctioned this month. It was taken from shipwreck off of Georgia in the 1970's. One bottle has been opened and was in perfect condition. Auction estimates are around $1200 which is a good price actually.

I'm betting this beer tastes awesome. These may be the oldest bottles, but it's not the first time "shipwreck" beer has been salvaged. Michael Jackson (the beer author) wrote about some of them here:

I've had Flag Porter before--not one of the salvaged bottles, of course, but the beer that was brewed using salvaged yeast from the 1800s. Good stuff!

I love Madeira! I got to smell a 175 year old madeira once; it was awesome. My favorite label is Rainwater madeira. Actually, it's my favorite beverage with a smoke.

By the description, location, and intended destination (speculative, of course) I'd say this is one beer that may be still decent.

You got to step up to a 5 or 10 year Madeira! Broadbent 5 or 10 are best buy's, as is Blandy's Alvada.

I have had Madeira back to 1795 Terrantez, and I know what you mean by the smell; just divine!

I'm in N. Weymouth, where would you recommend I find some? Blanchards?

I would love to get my hands on a 200 yr old beer. I would pay the $1200 and then bee the @$$hole that drank it immediately after buying it.

Atlas, Kappy's, or Blanchards would be good start. Both Madeiras are quite popular for their price ranges.

Don't forget Broadbent or NY Rare Wine Co.
