My wife and I are building a new house. I am kicking around the idea of installing the nest thermostats. Do any BOTL here have any experience with them?

Chip, I think the Nest thermostat is the best system avaialable on the market today. It's simple, efficient and is very user friendly for anyone. It takes about 2-3 weeks for it to get used to what you like but after that you usually don't even have to touch the thermostat anymore. During those first 2-3 weeks you have to remember to use it because its in the learning phase.

We like to keep our house around 68 degrees. We turn it down to 66 when we go to sleep and 30 mins before we wake up it jumps to 70. Within an hour while we are gone during the day it's at 66 and jumps back to 68 when we get home and so on.

There are other thermostats that do this but this is the easiest one to use in my opinion. We've been in the HVAC industry over the past 40 years and my father recommends this above all. I find that this is the best piece of equipment out there.

We used to install Honeywell stats but had so many problems we had to switch brands. We don't regularly install Nest because we get no better price on them than a customer shopping at best buy.

Research that it'll work with your furnace. Read a number of reviews where it caused issues with the furnace, but those tend to be older units.

This is what I was looking for. They are spendy but I only need two.

Unfortunately my system is too old to handle this otherwise it would already be installed at my house.
They have Fire and CO detectors too, which may be a little overkill but I think they are making a big move into a connected and automated house.
