28btl cooler requires 1lb of beads, 2 is better but not necessary. Plug drain hole. Fill cooler.

It will most likely be the Vinotemp 28. Does it matter what you plug with?

I just used electrical tape. You can buy bulk beads and put them in 2 ankle high stockings, one on top one on bottom. Been using this setup for 3 years.

Check out PetSmart for fish tank filter media white mesh bags. Much classier than nylons and very cheap. Fill em up, close the drawstring and seal with a ziptie and you are good for life. I use KL btw, prob close to five pounds in about seven bags spread out on every level of my Vino28.

I don't think I ever sealed the drain hole fwiw, but it's probably covered by a bag of KL.

Thanks for the tips. Sounds simple enough,I wasn't sure about how much beads. I'm also looking at drawers from Forest.

:-) They're in there. Along the back wall at each shelf and the bottom is pretty much packed with them. The vino28 is huge inside. Check out the reading on the hygro.

I'm getting mine set up now and this is what I'm doing for the hole. Somebody mentioned aquarium filter media bags in another post - that's what I'm using.

IC. I use my Vinotemps for storage not display. No hygrometers either, well there is one but the batteries died a year or so ago. Drawers are handy for singles, I have two in one of my Vino's. But they seriously limit box capacity. Its a good idea to pick up some empty cedar boxes from your local shop, they will help regulate humidity until you are able to fill it up with full ones.

I thought a hygrometer was a necessity? I want one more for temp control.

I use 65% Heartfelt beads. After monitoring with a hygrometer for a few years I came to trust the beads. I also know by the way my cigars feel and smoke if they are at the right humidity. I just keep about 2/3 of the beads moistened and have no issues. I first bought the Vinotemps for temp control but I now freeze everything for 3-4 days so I dont worry about beetle outbreaks.

I personally don't believe in plugging the drain. I had mine for 2+ years with no issues at all. Some people get condensation build up inside if they plug the drain and then jimmy-rig a pan/bowl at the bottom to catch the condensation build up. Why plug the drain? Just let the drain do the work it's supposed to and if you have enough beads in there, you will have no Rh swing at all... don't worry because a small little hole isn't plugged.
My opinion of course...
