Well, I finally received the bottle of Grand Old Parr 12yo Scotch Whiskey, which I won on eBay, about two weeks ago. This is a very difficult scotch to find much information on. I did find a link which offers many personal notes about it, and it contains some very interesting information. Apparently this scotch is very well known in Japan, Mexico, Columbia and Venezuela. It is said, that it is the biggest selling scotch in Japan! Most say that it is not available in the USA, and there must be something to that, as I have not been able to locate any bottles for sale, within the USA, in a retail shop. However, I am puzzled by that, since it states on the label (see photo) that there is a US Importer.
Does anyone on this board have any experience with this scotch?
See photos below and check out the link for input on Grand Old Parr Scotch Whiskey:

Oh Yea! I'm planing on opening it up over the next few weeks!
If you read any of the post in that link, I believe the first one states that it trashes JW Black. Now, JW Black is my go to scotch, has been for at least 10 years now, so I am very anxious to try it.

Johnny,
Let me be the first to say its one of my go to drinks. Very smooth and tantalizing. I've purchased at least 6 bottles of GOP from various trips to Costa Rica, Bahamas, and most recently Brazil. You are correct, no luck finding them in the US. I usually purchase them at International duty frees for $52 for a 2 pack. Well worth it IMO.
Interesting observation during my trip to the LCDH in Costa Rica. While enjoying my stogie, I noticed they had liquor lockers for local members. At least 75% of them had 1 bottle of GOP in them.
I was sold from that day on!!! Enjoy it!

Thanks for your input. It's really appreciated!
I'll be trying it very soon, but now I'm worried that I'm really going to like it and that I'll not be able to get any more.!

Thanks for the info.!
I did check things out and the S&H is a killer. I doubt if I'd ever do that.

If you are serious about it, there are a couple places that offer free shipping when orders go over a certain amount. We could group buy spirits to save on shipping.

I wonder why this isn't available in the US? JW Black is my go to as well, so let us know if the comparison holds up.

Well, I opened the bottle of Grand Old Parr last night and tasted a healthy dram. First of all, let me say, that this is a different character of scotch than JW Black. Old Parr is excellent, for what it is, but it would never replace JW Black as my go to scotch!
I’m no real expert when it comes to reviewing Scotch, Rums, Bourbons, and so on, but I’ll try to give my impressions of this libation. For me, this is a very bold, aggressive style, that has a very impressive flavor profile. I really enjoyed my first trial of this blended Scotch; however, this doesn’t impress me as a scotch that I would reach for very often; although, I will definitely enjoy it from time to time.
Nose: Heavy Malt, Raisin and Orange, Very Big.
Palate: Very aggressive, Oily, with strong nuances of Malt, Raisin, burnt Caramel and a light touch of Brown Sugar.
Finish: Very long, Oaky, with a touch of Peat/Smoke and, a touch of Sweetness.
