WTF.

I may be wrong, but I don't think there is any natural fermentation process that can turn a tobacco leaf this color. I mean, this cigar looks like it was dipped in shoe polish. I considered not even smoking it, honestly. The construction also leaves much to be desired. It looks like it wasn't even put in a mold before applying the wrapper. If you took the band off this cigar and handed it to me, I'd guess it was a $2 bundle cigar with a dyed wrapper. I am not kidding or exaggerating. BUT...since I ordered 5 of these things and don't want to bother with returning them, I decided to smoke one. :-)

First few draws...flavor is fairly typical maduro. Cocoa/coconut. A noticeable sweetness on the draw. A few burn corrections in the first 1".

About 1" in...the sweetness has intensified. It's now present throughout the entire draw/nose exhale/finish. There is also a very faint floral aroma coming from the foot. She tastes better than she looks as this point. Medium 'strength'. Pretty tasty smoke, honestly.

About 2" in...flavors and aromas are still the same. Pretty intense sweetness throughout the whole draw/nose exhale/finish. The burn has improved.

Around halfway...'strength' has subsided a bit, making the flavors a bit muted but still good. The burn has been good. I am digging this cigar so far, surprisingly. Based on appearance alone, I didn't think I would. But I trust my palate.

A little past halfway...similar flavors and aromas. The faint floral aroma has come back. The sweetness throughout is still present. Tasty smoke so far.

Toward the end...dominant flavors and aromas are pretty much the same. A coconut flavor has come in on the nose exhale, giving this cigar even more of a typical maduro profile. The sweet flavor lingers on the palate between draws. I nubbed this thing to just over 1".

Final thoughts....damn! If I had judged this cigar by appearance alone, I would have written it off. No joke. But this was a really good smoke. Dyed wrapper and all. :-)

Handmade cigars, after being rolled in the binder, are put into a press - then rotated 1/4 turn and pressed again. After this is done, the wrapper is applied. Often, you will see the marks of the press. Look at some of your other cigars, I am sure you will see it.

I do not believe these wrappers are dyed in any way. If it were a cigar by a couple other companies, I would consider that option. However, this is a Fuente.

Also, the Anejo sports a boardleaf maduro which is aged ("fermented") in cognac barrels. I think that this aging (I call it fermenting) process causes the wrapper to darken significanctly.

The Anejo line is outstanding. By the way, I think they age very well.

Peace of the Lord be with you.

The Anejo is the best Fuete has to offer. The Rev is correct about the wrapper but the fillers are an interesting combination of the fillers that make up the Don Carlos, Hemingway's and Opus X cigars. All in one great package.

People talk up the Opus (no clue as to why) but most don't even know about the Anejo. I wish they came out more than twice a year.

AGREED! I stock up Opus when I can so I can trade for Anejo and Padron Annis
